Note :
The Conference was convened pursuant to General Assembly resolution 369 (IV)1 of 3 December 1949 and met at Lake Success, New York, from 15 March to 6 April 1950. For the text of the Final Act of the Conference, see United Nations,  Treaty Series , vol. 119, p. 99.
In accordance with article 17 (1), the Convention was to cease to have effect on 23 January 1957.  However, the Convention was extended as a result of the adoption of the Protocols of 16 January 1957 and 15 January 1967, and remained in force until 24 January 1972 (see chapters XV.2 and XV.3).
