X[[[/lDl UNITED NATIONS TREATY COLLECTION http://treaties.un.org ------ DATABASES ----- The United Nations Treaty Collection (UNTC) at http://treaties.un.org is the most comprehensive collection of treaties in the world, both bilateral and multilateral. It consists mainly of the full texts of treaties and subsequent actions registered pursuant to Article 102 of the Charter of the United Nations and the Regulations and published by the United Nations Secretariat, and the latest participation status of multilateral treaties deposited with the Secretary-General. Over 60,000 authentic texts of treaties and a similar number of subsequent treaty actions with translations into English and French, as appropriate, are now available from this site. The following categories of treaty-related data on the site include: STATUS OF MULTILATERAL TREATIES DEPOSITED WITH THE SECRETARYGENERAL This database provides information on the status of over 500 major multilateral instruments deposited with the SecretaryGeneral of the United Nations and covers a range of subject matter such as Organized Crime, Human Rights, Disarmament, Commodities, Refugees, the Environment and the Law of the Sea. The number of treaties deposited with the SecretaryGeneral keeps growing steadily. This database reflects the status of these instruments, as Member States sign, ratify, accede or lodge declarations, reservations or objections. The publication is over one thousand pages in length and is published annually in hard copy and on CD-ROM in English and French. The database is updated daily in real-time mode on the Internet. URL: http://treaties.un.org/Pages/ParticipationStatus.aspx q DEPOSITARY NOTIFICATIONS (CNS) ISSUED BY THE SECRETARY-GENERAL The depositary is required to provide treaty related information to all interested parties on the treaties deposited with him. The Secretary-General, as depositary of multilateral treaties, provides this information by issuing depositary notifications. Depositary notifications, which are made available to interested parties in hard copy and by e-mail, deal with, inter alia, the following: Opening of treaties for signature; Signatures affixed to treaties; deposit of binding instruments, such as, instruments of ratification, acceptance, approval or accession; deposit of notifications of succession; reservations, declarations and territorial applications; communications, objections to reservations, withdrawal of reservations and withdrawal of objections; denunciations and terminations; any other information that, in the opinion of the Secretary-General, should be made known to the interested parties. This database is updated daily in English and French languages. URL: HYPERLINK "http://treaties.un.org/Pages/CNs.aspx" http://treaties.un.org/Pages/CNs.aspx q CERTIFIED TRUE COPIES (CTCs) OF MULTILATERAL TREATIES DEPOSITED WITH THE SECRETARY-GENERAL Since only a single original is established, it is the depositary's responsibility to prepare and transmit to the States concerned certified copies of the said original. This formality replaces the exchange of multiple original instruments that otherwise would have to take place between all the negotiating parties. The certified copies are normally used by Governments when submitting the agreement to their competent organs for whatever approval action is required under their particular constitutional procedures. This database can be searched by the title, key-word and chapter number corresponding to the status information made available in the publication Multilateral Treaties Deposited with the Secretary-General: status as at 31 December 2006 and on the website. URL: http://treaties.un.org/Pages/CTCs.aspx OPENING FOR SIGNATURE OF THE NEWLY ADOPTED CONVENTIONS DEPOSITED WITH THE SECRETARYGENERAL This section of the website is dedicated to the most recent developments in the depositary practice of the Secretary-General. Detailed information is provided on the newly adopted conventions such as title of the instrument, its date and place of adoption, time period when it is open for signature and the venue, full texts in all authentic languages and a link to the relevant depositary notification (CN) issued by the Secretary-General. The Journal contains the daily programme of meetings at Headquarters of the General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council and other bodies scheduled to take place on a given day, as well as identifies the symbols of major documents to be considered at the meetings -- even when the documents may not yet have been officially released. It also summarizes treaty actions which have been undertaken at the previous day by States in respect of multilateral treaties deposited with the Secretary-General. Such information appears under the heading "Signatures, Ratifications, etc." URL: HYPERLINK "http://treaties.un.org/Pages/DB.aspx?path=DB/journal/page1_en.xml&" http://treaties.un.org/Pages/DB.aspx?path=DB/journal/page1_en.xml& menu=MTDSG q AUTOMATED CN SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE This is a relatively new service offered by the Treaty Section to Member States and other interested parties by subscription to facilitate legal research and access to the selective issuances of the CNs on a preferred subject matter or a selected participant.
