A/CONF.162/7</a>.The Convention was adopted on 6 May 1993 at Geneva by the United Nations/International Maritime Organization Conference of Plenipotentiaries held at Geneva from 19 April to 7 May 1993. The Conference had been convened in accordance with resolution <a href="/doc/source/docs/A_RES_46_213-E.pdf" target="_blank">46/213</a><superscript>1</superscript> adopted by the General Assembly of 20 December 1991. The Convention is open for signature to all States at the Headquarters of the United Nations, New York, from 1 September 1993 to 31 August 1994, and shall thereafter remain open to accession.
