TREATY SECTION - GENERAL INFORMATION

OLA/UNITAR Workshop on Treaty Law and Practice

  In collaboration with UNITAR, the Treaty Section/OLA is organising a 2-day training workshop on treaty law and practice which will take place on 10-11 May 2012 at United Nations Headquarters, New York, in Conference Room E (NLB).

  The workshop programme also includes a session on Environmental Treaty Law in the context of Rio+20.

  An expert panel on environmental treaty law will highlight the issues at stake in the upcoming Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development. The panel will be composed of a UN expert, an academic and an experienced practitioner.

FOOD ASSISTANCE CONVENTION. LONDON, 25 APRIL 2012


OPENING FOR SIGNATURE

  The above Convention was adopted on 25 April 2012 at London.

  In accordance with its article 12, the Convention will be opened for signature at the United Nations Headquarters in New York by States and the organization referred to in article 12, from 11 June 2012 until 31 December 2012.

  The Secretary-General takes this opportunity to recall that, under established international practice, only Heads of State, Heads of Government or Ministers for Foreign Affairs are empowered, by virtue of their functions, to sign treaties on behalf of States without having to produce full powers to that effect.

  Other representatives wishing to sign the Convention must be in possession of appropriate full powers emanating from one of these authorities.

  The Secretary-General would be obliged if States wishing to sign the Convention could, as necessary, provide the required full powers in advance to the Treaty Section, Office of Legal Affairs, at United Nations Headquarters in New York, by facsimile: (212) 963-3693 or e-mail to:depositarycn@un.org
